Opera announced renunciation of registration fees:
Opera Software today permanently removed the ad banner and licensing fee from its award-winning Web browser. The ad-free, full-featured Opera browser is now available for download – completely free of charge
This is a good news because another cross-platform free web browser has appiared in the computer world!

They want to get a market segment because Firefox is growing very fast and M$ is going to release a new version of IE. So it’s gonna start a battle for users 
Opera’s income is not from desktop users. They said it on several occasions. Thier main income is from embedded devices, like mobile phones and PDAs.
