Feedbeep is a webservice to send RSS alerts to any mobile phone via SMS. It isn’t free but the fees are reasonable if you need to be hip to the latest news.

I’d recommend getting a smartphone and using a proper RSS aggregator as the alternative to this. But to each his own.
I agree with you but many people have ordinary mobile phones without possibility to read RSS. Sure this service cannot be used to read RSS. As I understand it just notifies about updates. It might be useful to know about new release of some software, for example.
