REMIX
Amazig, fabulous, incredible concept from Honda was announced today at the LA Auto Show:

Sports car in shape and design, the low-slung REMIX features a wrap-around canopy that adds a fighter jet-feel to the driving experience. The aluminum-color exterior accentuates every line and curve in the geometric, yet fluid styling. Capable of delivering more than just driving performance, the rear storage area supplies generous cargo room

Nokia 870 spy shot

Nokia870

Nokia 770 is very popular now. IMHO, it’s the best product of Nokia. So, it’s reasonable that Nokia decided to release next version of Internet Tablet. The new model – Nokia 870, will have a built-in webcam, which can apparently rotate to face towards or away from the user, 180 MB internal memory and SD slot instead of RS-MMC. Internally it’ll be still 770 and it’ll run OS 2006. The new model won’t have a slide-in “dock” casing which is useless IMHO.

Nokia and Yahoo today extended their partnership to offer Yahoo! branded services including Yahoo! Mail and Messenger on Nokia’s wide range of mobile phones operating on the Series 40 platform. The first models where Yahoo! services will be availabe are Nokia 6300, the Nokia 5300 XpressMusic and the Nokia 5200. About which services we’re talking? The most useful and important thing is a synchronization of contacts, tasks and calendar on your mobile with Yahoo!

Install SATA HDD

November 17th, 2006 No comments

Yesterday I tried to install Linux on new HDD which has SATA-II interface. The PC I used has motherboard (ASUS A8V) which support both IDE and SATA interfaces. But it has old BIOS. I spent about two hours to understand why the systen is not recognize it. Here is a short solution:

1. Plug in SATA HDD. Be sure that you limit data transfer rate to 1,5 Gbits using appropriate jumper position.
2. Enter to BIOS by pressing ‘Delete’ and modify following options:

  • Set OnChip SATA to Enabled
  • Set OnBoard Promise Controller to Enabled
  • Set Operating Mode to OnBoard IDE Operation

3. Save changes and reboot.
4. Press ‘Delete’ to enter to BIOS. You should see SATA BIOS menu. To enter there press ‘Tab’ (I couldn’t do anything there except to see my HDD information).

Note: when you’ll boot your PC it’ll show SATA HDD only on second screen when SATA BIOS will be loaded.

Fedora Core 6 and Acrobat Reader

November 17th, 2006 4 comments

After I loose my previous work environment I decided to install Fedora Core 6 released last month. It looks nice and works faster. But I found a big troubles with using Adobe Acrobat Reader. I downloaded RPM from Adobe site and installed it. But when I tried to open it I saw just continiusly repeated messages:

expr: syntax error

After five minutes of googling I found the solution:

1. Open file /usr/bin/acroread as root

2. Find the row 418

echo $mfile| sed ‘s/libgtk-x11-\([0-9]*\).0.so.0.\([0-9]\)00.\([0-9]*\)\|\(.*\)/\1\2\3/g’

3. Replace it by

echo $mfile| sed ‘s/libgtk-x11-\([0-9]*\).0.so.0.\([0-9]*\)00.\([0-9]*\)\|\(.*\)/\1\2\3/g’

4. Find the row 644

MIN_GTK_VERSION=”240″

5. Replace it by

MIN_GTK_VERSION=”2040″

After this simple patching Acrobat Reader works fine.

The next generation of UMPC

November 8th, 2006 No comments

Kohjisha

Japanese company Kohjisha announced a new mini-PC – SA1F00A. Basically, it isn’t UMPC but it may be a good competitor for it. SA1F00A features AMD’s 500MHz Geode LX800 CPU, a 7-inch 800×480 touch-sensitive display, up to 1GB of memory and 80GB of disk, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 3-in-1 memory card and CF card slots, and respectable 5-hour battery with a 2.2-hour full recharge. It measures just 218 x 163 x 25.4mm and it weighs 960-grams. The price of the mini-PC is tagged by $754 for 40GB and $930 for 80GB HDD respectively. It’s less than the price of most popular UMPC on the market. So, SA1F00A has every prospect of success.

Rate of arts

Art-O-Meter

Recently I found this interesting device Art-O-Meter:

Art-O-Meter is a device that measures the quality of an art piece. It bases its evaluation on the amount of time that people spend in front of an artwork compared to the total time of exhibition. The measurements are graphically represented by comments and a 5 star rating system.

This device may help you to evaluate of artworks. But IMHO it’s very very visual. And it might be more reasonable to read some information and opinions before visit of art gallery.
