Russia

A set of photos from Russia where that winter is very cold in some areas. As you might see the temperature is -50 degrees! Once when I lived in the Russian North there was -48C. It was very cold but much better (thanks to low level of humidity) then -20C in St. Petersburg.

iPhone Dock

Land Rover LRX concept car sports an iPhone dock. It provides an amazing features! When docked, the iPhone would upload your music, seat settings, steering wheel settings, and all the information for the car’s “transfigurable displays.” So, now you can have your car preferences on the your phone in addition to music, video and emails. Useful feature isn’t it?

Shuttle $199 Linux PC

Shuttle

Shuttle has announced a budget PC in compact form-factor with funny skins. Just for $199 you will get “an Intel Celeron processor, a 945GC chipset, 512MB of memory and either a 60GB or 80GB hard drive. What it won’t have: an optical drive or a PCI Express slot. Despite that, it’s a pretty good-looking box, and comes in red, blue, white, and black, each with a different icon stamped on the front.” It’s not bad, isn’t it? Also, the $99 barebones version is available to give to users the choice of CPU, memory and hard drive storage.

The new Shuttle KPC is based on Linux. So, it’s a good opportunity to step in the open source world!

Creative advertising

Ad

That creative advertising was found in the one of Moscow airports. The full size Mercedes car is being nailed to the celling. Looks amazing but I wouldn’t like to stay under that car. The signs next to car says: “This isn’t private plane” and other “But the feels the same”.

Another way to meet your Russian classmates

January 15th, 2008 No comments

Leonid blogged a few times about Russian social network Odnoklassniki.ru. Basically, it’s good place to find your classmates from school, college, university or coworkers from the previous places of work. But personally I don’t like the way how it’s done and stability of that service. I found alternative service which is much better and reliable. It’s VKontakte.ru. It looks similar to very popular Facebook and offers a simple way to find classmates, coworkers and friends. It’s allows to upload photos, audio, video, write funny wall-posts, send private messages, create or join to some group. Technically VKontakte.ru satisfies the requirements of web 2.0 and ordinary users should find its interface simple and friendly.

I found a few my classmates from Military Mojaiski Academy, a lot of fun photos (black and white actually). So, I highly recommend to all Russian people check that service.

Since the first release of Sony’s personal WiFi communicator it was improved a lot. The Mylo 2 has a 4.5-inch 800 x 450 touchscreen, 1GB of internal memory and a 1.3-megapixel camera. MiniUSB port or WiFi can be used for communication with the world. The installed software includes following: Flash Lite 3 for online video (such as YouTube and Google Video), a Netfront-based browser, IM client (supporting AIM, Gtalk and Yahoo! IM), Skype, podcast client and RSS aggregator. Additionally the mylo 2 has widget system which is compatible with web gadgets such Facebook or Google. Music and video fans will be happy to play back WMA/PlaysForSure DRM, MP3, AAC, ATRAC and MPEG-4 files on their gadget.

The Sony Mylo 2 is expected to be available this month at $300. BTW, I’m waiting delivery my Nokia N810 from UK. It’s a bit more expensive than Mylo 2 but it’s more featured too. Hope it’ll be on Cyprus next week.
