Upgrade WordPress

Last week I upgraded all my blogs to WordPress 2.1.3 (this one was 1.5 🙂 ). It took just ten minutes per blog. I followed by WordPress upgrade guide. There was only a few small problems related with some old plugins. After downloaded and installed new versions of them the problems were resolved.
I’d like to say thanks to WordPress team for the excellent software! Good work, guys!

Picasa Web Albums grow up to 1Gb!

Picassa As a user of Picasa Web Album I’m happy to know that Google increased album space from 250MB to 1GB which should be enough to store up to 4000 standard-resolution photos. Additionally, a new Community Photos search feature was created to help you discover and explore the public web albums of others on the site. Plus the procedure of link albums or photos via email, IM or website is much easier now. Just copy and paste showed code.

New hosting for our photo album

Since I moved my blog to the new hosting out photo album is inaccessible. Initially I though to use Flickr. It’s the best place for photo sharing IMHO. Moreover, there is a WordPress pluging which allows to integrate your Flickr albums with design of your blog. But the problem with migration to the Flickr is a lack of time to process all my photos again. Because I don’t want to upload small ones (640×480). So, I decided to use Google Picasa to keep my albums as they were before. I think it’s not bad idea. And maybe later I’ll migrate to the Flickr 😉

We came back!

After good, two-week vacation in rainy St Petersbug we came back to sunny Cyprus. Our cat was glad to see us. She mewed at least one hour at night under our bedroom door. A hard drive in my work computer died with 80GB of data. Well, some part of it was a garbage. But for the rest I have to find a way to restore it (I know, backup is a panacea for this kind of problems but I didn’t do it). So, I’m working now on Windows PC and waiting for a new hard drive. And finally, after the nice rest I have to resolve a bunch of problems which accumulated during my vacation. I work just a second day but I’m already tired! Vacation …
Vacation was fantastic. We were in the Russian Museum, the Mariinsky Theatre and the Theatre of Comedy. We walked on the Nevsky Prospect, The Fontanka street … We took a lot of pictures (I need a time to process them). But not so much as in our previous visit. Also, I’ve decided to review and move all our photos to the Flickr. It takes some time but I think that it’s the best way to store and share our photos. I hope that I do it soon.

About Java

Personally I don’t like Java because it seems like a just product of high-quality PR. I don’t want to minimize the Java importance. it’s an excellent solution for certain goals but it isn’t unique, it isn’t absolutely universal! Hovewer, Java adherents think differently. From their point of view there are not anything noteworthy except perfect, brilliant, ideal Java! James Gosling – father of Java confirmed this thesis in his interview speach at Sun’s World Wide Education & Research Conference: “Java Is Under No Serious Threat From PHP, Ruby or C#”. One of many discussions can be found there. Dear Java-programmers, please, be more modest. Other programming languages are not so weak and useless as you can think 😉
