XML/SWF Charts
During my work with SugarCRM I’ve found an intersting tool to generate charts – XML/SWF Charts. This is a simple tool based on Macromedia Flash and XML. You need to create a simple XML file which contains data and chart parameters and pass it to SWF script. This approach can be used on Perl, PHP etc. It’s simple, power and looks very attractive (much better than pictures generated by GD::Graph, for example).
Another advantage of XML/SWF Charts is an interaction. All elements on the chart can poit on some web pages or others charts. It’s useful when you want to display details for specified chart item.
I didn’t play with XML/SWF Charts closely but I’m going to do that next two-three days. After that I’ll write my senses from that tool.
Oh yes, that tool is just amazing. Another good thing is that charts seem to come up prety small.
One disadvantage though, swf sux 🙁 ( 😉 )
I think using swf is not bad. Only one small problem is copy that chart into some text document. But for using on web it’s nice!
