Site update

I moved to the new hosting last week. It was difficult a bit because the hosting has a good graphical interface but extremely pure shell. I prefer do everything related with my blogs via shell because it’s much faster than GUI. But in that case I spent some time to dump my database back (via GUI it took a lot of time with my home connection).
Anyway, now the blog id up and ready to tell you about interesting things.

New blog face

Recently I upgraded my WordPress blog up to 2.1.3. Right after that I decided to change its theme. I spent many hours to look at newest WordPress themes. Then I tried to apply some interesting ones to my blog. Finally, I chose this theme. It looks nice, clear and modern. So, I moved all customizations from the previous one and I hope it works correctly.

Organize devices on the desk

After we moved to the new flat I decided to put my computer devices more efficient on the my small desk. I followed by brief guide of Van Mardian and mounted an ADSL modem and WiFi router under my desk. I don’t have so much devices which can be mount such manner but I got some free space on the desk. The next step is to mount power extender there as well.

Thanks to Lifehacker for a good point.

Upgrade WordPress

Last week I upgraded all my blogs to WordPress 2.1.3 (this one was 1.5 🙂 ). It took just ten minutes per blog. I followed by WordPress upgrade guide. There was only a few small problems related with some old plugins. After downloaded and installed new versions of them the problems were resolved.
I’d like to say thanks to WordPress team for the excellent software! Good work, guys!

Picasa Web Albums grow up to 1Gb!

Picassa As a user of Picasa Web Album I’m happy to know that Google increased album space from 250MB to 1GB which should be enough to store up to 4000 standard-resolution photos. Additionally, a new Community Photos search feature was created to help you discover and explore the public web albums of others on the site. Plus the procedure of link albums or photos via email, IM or website is much easier now. Just copy and paste showed code.

Visit to Agios Neofytos Monastery

Agios Neofitos

Last Sunday Maria and I visited Agios Neofytos Monastery. This amazing place is situated near to Pafos by direction to Polis. The monastery was built in the cave and later it was painted by the finest Byzantine frescoes of the 12th and 15th centuries. We took a few photos and you can see them here. But it definitely will be better to visit this place.

We came back!

After good, two-week vacation in rainy St Petersbug we came back to sunny Cyprus. Our cat was glad to see us. She mewed at least one hour at night under our bedroom door. A hard drive in my work computer died with 80GB of data. Well, some part of it was a garbage. But for the rest I have to find a way to restore it (I know, backup is a panacea for this kind of problems but I didn’t do it). So, I’m working now on Windows PC and waiting for a new hard drive. And finally, after the nice rest I have to resolve a bunch of problems which accumulated during my vacation. I work just a second day but I’m already tired! Vacation …
Vacation was fantastic. We were in the Russian Museum, the Mariinsky Theatre and the Theatre of Comedy. We walked on the Nevsky Prospect, The Fontanka street … We took a lot of pictures (I need a time to process them). But not so much as in our previous visit. Also, I’ve decided to review and move all our photos to the Flickr. It takes some time but I think that it’s the best way to store and share our photos. I hope that I do it soon.
